I do not go to Bangkok often but when I do I make it count. My friends called me last week and said come up, we are going out. I packed a bag and took the bus from Pattaya. Three hours of bad road and loud music but I did not care. I needed a night off.
I wore my blue dress with the brown blazer because I wanted to look like I belong in the city. Pattaya is casual. Bangkok is different. People dress up. I got my nails done green because I was in a bold mood. Sometimes your nails tell people everything they need to know about how your night is going to go.
We went to a place in Thonglor that my friend knows. Dark inside, good music, the kind of bar where nobody looks at you twice even if you are trans. I like that about Bangkok. In Pattaya everyone is watching everyone. Here you can just disappear into the crowd and be whoever you want for the night.
I took a mirror selfie before we left because the lighting was perfect. My friend said I looked expensive. I told her I am expensive. We laughed about it all night. That is the thing about good friends. They do not need you to explain yourself. They just get it.
I took the bus back the next morning with my heels in my bag and my makeup still on from the night before. The bus driver gave me a look. I smiled at him. He smiled back. Thailand is like that. People are kind if you let them be.
