Songkran on Samui is its own kind of chaos. The streets turn into a water fight, everyone is soaked by noon, and nobody cares if you are dressed up or not. I got ready anyway. That is just who I am.
There is something beautiful about a holiday that tells you to stop being serious. We throw water on strangers. We laugh at ourselves. For a few days nobody is too cool, nobody is too tired, everyone is just a little kid again.
I took a few photos before the water got me. After that, you would not have wanted them anyway. Mascara does not survive Songkran.
Happy Thai New Year from the island. May your year be wet, warm, and full of people you like.
